What does a newborn baby need?

The first three months after birth are usually called the fourth trimester. The baby, who has lived nine months in a warm and safe place close to the mother's heartbeat, will now become familiar with a new big world. One recommendation is therefore to have the baby skin-to-skin as much as possible so that your newborn baby's need for closeness is satisfied. At Geggamoja, we think that a baby wrap is a real lifesaver during the first few days. It may be that the baby does not want to sleep at all in the cozy crib that you have arranged so nicely. Instead, let the newborn lie close to or maybe even on a parent where the warmth and heartbeat are.

Since you are reading this guide, we assume that you are expecting or have recently had an addition to your family - congratulations! Although you cannot predict the behavior and desires of the new family member, it is nice to have some things in place when the family gets bigger, mainly to avoid having to organize everything when the baby has just been welcomed into the world. We at Geggamoja naturally want to help you along the way in getting to know and taking care of the new addition to the family. As a help on the way, this guide highlights what we believe a newborn baby needs.

Clothing tips & advice

Clothes are a must for your newborn. Check out our checklist below for guidance on what types of clothing and how much to buy for your baby. Focus on soft and organic materials, but also think practically and choose what you like in terms of quality and design.

We at Geggamoja love and can highly recommend our bamboo pajamas . They are incredibly soft, while bamboo is a natural material without chemicals that is perfect for baby's skin. The most popular and smart feature of our zip pajamas is its two-way zipper, a convenient solution that simplifies diaper changes. In the early days, many people also prefer to use a bodysuit in a wrap model. This is mainly to avoid pulling the garment over the newborn baby's head. Outdoors, the child should wear a cap or sun hat on his head to protect against cold and sun - preferably during the entire first year!

What size should I buy for my newborn baby?

You never know how small or big your baby will be when they are born. We have preemie clothes for premature or very small babies from size 40. We generally recommend size 50/56 for newborns. Geggamoja's clothes are normal size or bordering on slightly roomy in size.

Pram

The stroller is a place where you want your little bundle of joy to feel comfortable and cozy. So make sure to make a bed and make it cozy or use a comfortable travel bag in the stroller. Then complete it with a lovely blanket and a soft toy or pendant to make the stroller both personal and recognizable to the baby's senses. Having products that smell familiar and accompany you in everyday life makes the little one feel safe - but remember to choose sustainable products with high quality.

We also recommend investing in one of our UV curtains. Such a curtain is good to use during summer days when the sun's rays find their way into the stroller. In general, however, it is important that the baby does not get too hot or cold in the stroller. A tip is therefore to feel the baby's neck to determine the body temperature. If it is hot and humid in the stroller, a layer usually needs to be removed from the baby.

Changing table

Another place that you will be at a lot is the changing table. Give this place a cozy and personal touch as well. For example, by hanging a mobile for the baby to look at or with a soft toy that can keep the baby company during diaper changes. A quality changing mat that can withstand accidents can be a good investment. NOTE! Never leave your baby unattended on the changing table.

BED

Did you know that a child sleeps about 50–70% of the time during the first six to seven years of life? It is therefore important that your child feels comfortable in their sleeping place. Using a baby nest ensures that the baby has a safe and secure sleeping place. However, sleep is not only important for children in the first few years, but also for you as a new parent. Therefore, make sure that the sleeping place feels cozy for the whole family. For example, with our cuddly blankets in organic material that you can easily take with you from bed to stroller or curl up in during cozy time on the sofa.

We at Geggamoja hope you have been supported by this guide and will find some new favorites in our range. We wish you the best of luck with the new family member. Take care! ❤
